The FNB Classic Clashes football match between De Duine and Namib High secondary schools ended prematurely due to fistfights and pitch invasions in Narraville on Saturday.
Incidents that contributed and led to the abandonment of the match were recorded on video and according to Tuyeni Amutenya from Sports 4U, the company responsible for the logistical aspects of the Classic Clashes on behalf of FNB, the bank will investigate and could possibly take action against both schools.
“The involved schools could be suspended from future participation and forfeit funds which they would have earned from the competition,” she said.
Referee Titus Nghishimono stopped the ill-tempered game on two occasions after fighting erupted among the players. De Duine midfielder Shipanga Abraham and defender Philip Kavari were subsequently red-carded in the second half.
The game resumed and fighting erupted once again after a few minutes of play. Spectators invaded the pitch for a second time, threatened and insulted Nghishimono before he decided to end the match with a few minutes of play left.
Namib High (Swakopmund) was leading 5-1 against De Duine at that stage. Ryan Ockhuisen was named man of the match.
Defender Quinton Kanganga scored from a penalty spot for De Duine after an infringement in the box on striker Elrico January.
Midfielder Jesse Job equalised for Namibia High. He collected a through pass, controlled the ball and chipped it over an advancing De Duine goalie Johan Valentine into the back of the empty net.
Midfielder Ryan Ockhuisen handed Namib High the lead (2-1). De Duine defender Medwine Oaseb scored an own goal and made the score 3-1 in favour of Namib High at halftime.
Defender Roger Narib and striker Rainer Ushona added another two goals for Namib High in the second half before matters got out of hand and the referee called an end to the game with about five minutes of playtime left.
