First intake enter NFA Girls Centre

History was made on Friday when the first intake of 14 girls to the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Girls Centre took place on Friday afternoon.
The centre that was inaugurated in March this year finally opened doors for the 14 aspiring young footballers, who together with their parents were excited and looking forward to their football and academic training at the NFA Girls Centre.
NFA Girls Centre Director Jackey Gertze was looking forward to working with the girls while NFA secretary general Barry Rukoro called on the girls to work hard.
“This is your chance to be the first and being the first, means you have to set an example, and a great one of course,” Rukoro said.
“You must learn about confidence, determination and self-control and the ability to be visible that will lead to social change.”
Representing GIZ, one of the major sponsors of the NFA Girls Centre was Christian Petersen.
The following women footballers were selected by coach Jacqui Shipanga based on their needs and participation in the Galz & Goals program: Anna Shikusho, Shanice Daries, Valerie Kamburutue, Laesa Hanse, Julia Rutjindo, Lydiana Nanamus, Vanessa !Noreses, Sara Asino, Chantelle Engelbrecht, Gwen Narises, Mbitjita Mungunda, Batista Kasume, Memory Ngonda and Beverly Ngozondu. The German Government mandated the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to conduct the Sector Programme “Sport for Development” in Namibia.
On 17 March 2014, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the vision to empower girls and young women through sport.
Through this MoU, a Girls Centre has been constructed for the purpose of creating a safe space for girls and young women.
The signatories of the MoU include the Ministry of Sports, Youth and National Service (MSYNS), the Namibia Football Association (NFA), the German Football Association (DFB), the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia (FLVW), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
