The organisers of the 2018 Debmarine Namibia Cup are urging football fans to get their tickets early for the quarterfinal clashes that will take place at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight and on Saturday.
The eight remaining teams in the 2018 Debmarine Namibia Cup final will battle it out for a spot in the semifinals of the lucrative competition this weekend.
The competition, which is reaching its zenith, has been attracting large crowds of late and this weekend should be no exception.
The quarterfinals will kick off with Civics and Tura Magic facing off at 19:00 on Friday, and the three remaining games will be played on Saturday, also at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
At 15:00 on Saturday, Golden Bees will confront Black Africa, before Unam and Blue Waters clash at 17:00.
The final quarterfinal match will be between Eleven Arrows and African Stars at 19:00.
The winners will advance to the semifinals to be contested on 12 to 13 May, to decide the two sides to meet in the final on 26 May. “Fans need to get their tickets now from Computicket outlets at Shoprite and Checkers, as well as at Football House, to avoid unnecessary shoving at the stadium on Friday and Saturday,” said Namibia Football Association (NFA) secretary-general Barry Rukoro.
“The football matches look very promising and we urge football lovers to get their tickets on time. Last-minute ticket purchases always come with undesired consequences of frustrations and we need to avoid that. “We are also making this plea as a responsible football association to avoid possible stampedes at the stadium, resulting from the late purchase of tickets,” Rukoro added.
In the first edition of the Debmarine Namibia sponsorship of the competition last year, the Gobabis Legare Stadium hosted the quarterfinals and after some riveting footballing action, eight goals were scored, as Mighty Gunners, Young Chiefs, Young African, Tura Magic and Eastern Chiefs advanced to the semifinals. Young African eventually won the cup by beating Gunners in the final, also held in Gobabis.
This year's overall winners will walk away with a cheque worth N$500 000, while the losing finalist receives N$250 000 and the losing semi-finalists N$150 000 each.
All individual awards will amount to a total of N$95 000, which includes N$2 000 for the best player of every match leading up to the final.
Each man of the match also gets to choose a charity of his choice that will receive N$2 000 each from Debmarine Namibia, as part of enriching lives beyond the field of play.
