Exporting Namibian sound
Ann Singer recently returned from Johannesburg, South Africa where she showcased at the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA).
IMTA is a professional association of the finest and most successful modelling and talent in the world.
Her Johannesburg showcase was successful and she was chosen to represent Namibia at the IMTA showcase in New York next year.
tjil caught up with the singer to find out what this opportunity means to her.
tjil (t): This is a big platform, how do you intend to use it to achieve the best out of it?
Ann Singer (AS): I intend to go out there and be the best that I can be. I am definitely taking this and running with it because I know that this could be my biggest break. I am tired of playing small; I am ready to play in the big leagues now.
I am ready to break boundaries and show the world that nothing is impossible and that Namibia can also produce some of the biggest talents that the world can see.
t: What was it like showcasing your talent to international judges?
AS: It was my first showcase so you can imagine the nerves and the excitement. I have however always dreamed big, even as a child, so it also felt a little like deja vu.
It was as if I was re-living a moment I had lived before. It was almost everything really, also confirmation that my dreams are valid and that international is not impossible.
t: You are an amazing singer – that's not up for discussion. But besides your talent what do you think made you stand out?
AS: I am a fighter and I fought on that stage. I can gladly say that I wear my heart on my sleeve and I leave my every emotion on stage.
I strongly believe that as a musician or artist you need to be able to make people feel through your music and I did that, I went out there, gave it my all and I left my heart on that stage.
I didn't go to South Africa and tried to be someone else, I went there and I was my true authentic self and I believe that that was one of the things that the judges were looking for. Authenticity!
t: Have you already started preparing for America?
AS: Yes, I am already dreaming about it and visualising it. Where the mind has been the man goes. I also already started working on my vocals and I am also very excited about boot camp coming up soon.
