Lize Ehlers’ latest offering ‘Ma Se Maniere’ arrived accompanied by a stellar new music video. The song features Sade Alberts – known by the mononym Sade – one of the very first RMB Song Nighters. Speaking on the collaboration, Ehlers told tjil that Sade auditioned 10 years ago and performed on the debut RMB Song Night stage alongside Sean K and Micheal Pulse. “As part of the RMB Song Night decade celebration, we decided to link up and create ‘Ma Se Maniere’ to celebrate our coloured culture, language and voices,” Ehlers said.
In the song, the two songbirds are confronting Covid-19, saying: “If you had your mother’s manners, you would stop with the devastation you are causing”.
The two sing about being mothers and wives during a pandemic.
“We sing about oversharing on social media and how things should be kept private.
“We are mostly focusing on the fact that there are still moments of joy even during these bitter times,” she said.
Written and recorded by Ehlers and Sade, ‘Ma Se Maniere’ was produced by 2019 Namibian Annual Music Awards producer of the year DJ Chronic, while the video was shot by CoolCat Productions and edited by Martin Amushendje.
Outside the box
Ehlers told tjil the single is part of her next album, which will also feature her hit song with Gazza, ‘Happy.’ She describes it as a diverse piece of work which will feature a lot of amapiano songs including a collaboration with Exit.
“It was time for me to step outside of my comfort zone and create fun pieces of work that offer social commentary and entertainment,” she said, adding that the upcoming album is untitled for now, but it might get an emotional title when she gets more songs done.
Summing up the conversation, Ehlers shared that the pandemic is putting quite some pressure – health-wise – on the production, although she is fully vaccinated.
“I would like to release the album on my 35th birthday on 1 January 2022. In the meantime, ‘Ma Se Maniere’ can be streamed or downloaded for free on Donlu Africa, with the music video available on YouTube,” she said.
