Drought relief continues in the new year

The Namibia Drought Relief Fund's calendar for this year is packed with new, innovative ideas to help farmers.
Project manager Henriette le Grange says they plan to start fundraising immediately for when the need arises.
According to the Namibia Agriculture Union (NAU) sections of the country, including Aus, Rosh Pinah, Bethanie and Warmbad in the South, have not yet received any rain.
In the north, Khorixas and parts west of Outjo received little to no rain, and east of Leonardville and parts of the Khomas Hochland are also still very dry.
Furthermore, the chances of veld fires after the rainy season are high yet again, the union says.
“The Drought Relief Team would like to remind everyone that the project started to help farmers in need, not only during a drought, but also in the veld fire season.”
Many of their previous initiatives had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but new fundraising projects for needy farmers are in the pipeline.
A potjiekos competition, family picnic, ribs-and-braaibroodjie competition, father-and-daughter dance, spring dance, and the annual drought relief auction are on the agenda for the year.
