Don't panic... it's Tshwarangango II
The defence ministry has requested members of the public not to panic when they see a number of Namibian Defence Force (NDF) vehicles travelling along the road to Botswana.
The NDF is sending a motorised infantry company to Botswana to participate in a combined bilateral battalion-level peace operation military exercise, codenamed 'Exercise Tshwarangango II'.
The NDF convoy will depart today from Gobabis via the Trans-Kalahari border post.
The exercise will take place from today until 30 July in the area of Kang in the Kgalagadi District of Botswana.
It will mainly focus on enhancing inter-operational peace support at regional level by employing a SADC standby force within the broad regional peace and security spectrum.
The exercise emanated from the resolutions of Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security between Namibia and Botswana held in 2012 in Gaborone.
Exercise Tshwarangango II is the third session of this arrangement.
