Dedication is the name of the game
David Haimbili is a senior forex dealer for branches at the treasury department of Bank Windhoek and he remains committed to offering the best possible service.

David Haimbili believes that when one focuses on education, continues to work hard and uses the opportunities available, one can achieve greatness in life.
“Wilma Rudolph once said that you should never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion because the potential for greatness lives within each of us. Do what you can and what you are able to do during this short time you get to spend on this planet earth.”
Haimbili was born 40 years ago at a village called Ncaute in the Kavango East region. “I am from a big family with eight siblings. Although both my parents did not have any formal education, they knew education was important to us and managed to send us all to school. At times, I joke with my friend saying that I am a former cattle herder, because growing up, I had to continue to juggle attending school and looking after the cattle and goats,” Haimbili adds.
He completed grade 12 in 1999 at Rundu Senior Secondary School and accepted at the University of Namibia (Unam). He currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and physics and a Master’s in International Business (MIB) from the Harold Pupkewitz business school at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust).
Haimbili further holds various short-course certificates in ACI dealing, selling, simulating trading, fundamental accounting and risk management.
“I started my career as a graduate trainee at Nedbank Namibia and I joined Bank Windhoek in 2009 as a forex dealer. I held this position for five years, and got promoted to senior forex dealer for clients and branches where I am currently buying and selling money and offering service to our esteemed clients,” he says.
Haimbili believes that being prepared and informed plays an important role in offering the best services to your clients. “When you are prepared, you can give informed advice to your clients as a market analyst, on which direction the currency is likely to move. I help to advise clients on market happenings, buying and selling currencies and calling clients to advise on opportunities in the market and negotiate the exchange rate price.”
Learning to become a successful trader and adjusting from a scientific background has proven to be challenging for Haimbili at first, but he has always striven to make the most of any given situation. “I strive to always deliver what is expected from me, both in meeting budget targets and delivering superior customer services,” he says.
“When I am not trading, I enjoy long walks, jogging, reading contemporary books and playing social football league. I am also fortunate enough to have been able to travel and experience outdoor nature and the wildlife it offers,” Haimbili adds.
He aims to continue improving in all phases of his life, both at work and academically, and will continue to take on new challenges.
Haimbili always wished he was able to fly a plane, but the motivated and aspiring individual believes in not just aiming for the stars, but surpassing that, and might even become a successful pilot in the future.
“My biggest fear is failing on executing my plans and disappointing my family. I believe each one of us has responsibilities and we owe it to those that depend on us.”
Haimbili hopes that one day equal sharing of opportunities and resources among communities and all nations will be possible, because he believes that we are stronger together, and with the right mindset, the world is truly your oyster.
