Carving out his own path
MONIQUE ADAMS
WINDHOEK
Devitchi is a young music producer, composer and DJ, born and raised in Windhoek. Having been in the music industry for six years, his work is finally permeating the commercial scene.
A workaholic, Devitchi has a number of musical projects under his belt including two EPs and two albums titled ‘The Awakening’ (EP), ‘House not House’ (EP), ‘Circle of Fifths’ and ‘African Child.’
His sound is a fusion of different sounds with hip-hop, trap, R&B, jazz, soul and House music being some of the dominant genres he taps into.
Growing up he can remember listening to music everywhere, with his mother always playing music every Saturday and Sunday morning.
“My musical inclination is derived from everyday surroundings. I am influenced by local and international icons like Jackson Kaujeua, Matongo Family, Big Ben, Brenda Fassie, Stimela, Sade, Fella Kuti and Black Coffee just to name a few.
For Devitchi his dream collaboration will definitely be Pharrel Williams with his out-of-this-world talent that he can learn a lot from.
Apart from his solo projects he is also part of a group called The Alternatives, which is a group of friends that connected through business and creative projects. It consists of himself, RÖMI, Groovy Martin, Adevarul, Franklin Soulkid and Zackary von Francois.
Devitchi emphasises the importance of working with underrated artists. He believes that Namibia has a lot of uncut diamonds and monotonous work is not his vice.
He believes working with underground artists will maximise his sound as he plans on branching into different areas of music and playing a vital role in these artists’ growth.
“At the moment I am taking time to perfect my craft in order to master the art of creating universal music. It would be great to collaborate with local designers and brands to tap into the business aspect of things,” he says.
