Beaten to a pulp for N$100
Two suspects were arrested over the weekend for bashing in the head of a 26-year-old man with an iron bar because he apparently stole N$100 at a shebeen.
According to the police the incident occurred on Saturday morning in a house at Omahahi village.
The suspects, 29 and 40, assaulted the man causing multiple injuries on the head. The victim is reportedly in a critical condition at Oshakati State Hospital.
In another incident on Saturday at Fort Park Street in Greenwell, it is alleged that a man lost his cellphone during a robbery at a bar and was killed. According to the police 35-year-old Michael Ndimulume confronted three men he suspected stole the phone and they attacked him. One of the suspects fatally hit him with a bottle on the head. All three suspects were arrested.
In a separate incident, a 44-year-old man from the Oshikulufitu village in the Anamulenge constituency was arrested for allegedly murdering his nephew, a pensioner, by smashing his head with a brick.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the suspect allegedly entered the room of 72-year-old Daniel Kleopas Shiikwa.
The suspect allegedly came from the Okakango cuca shop, woke up the deceased and started to threaten him. He pulled the victim off the bed and beat him with a brick before fleeing.
The suspect was later arrested at Onawa village.
In a another incident on Saturday in Keetmanshoop, a 32-year-old woman was gang-raped by four men behind the veteran affairs' office in Krönlein. One of the suspects allegedly forced her into the area where he raped her before the other men joined in. Two security guards working nearby heard the woman screaming and came to her rescue.
The guards arrested a 20-year-old man but the other three suspects managed to flee.
On Saturday, a driver caused an accident on the Trans-Kalahari highway and then killed himself.
According to the police, the accident occurred about 12:00 and it is alleged that 43-year-old Philip Rooinasie was driving a blue Chevrolet Corsa with a passenger in the vehicle.
Rooinasie lost control causing the vehicle to overturn and the passenger sustained injuries. He then went to a nearby tree and committed suicide by hanging himself.
In another incident two people were killed in an accident on the road between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo on Friday morning.
The driver and a passenger in the bakkie died at the scene while a 38-year-old Scania truck driver escaped unhurt.
In a separate accident on Sunday evening a driver crashed into a Shell Service Station in Otjiwarongo.
Warrant officer Maureen Mbeha, the Otjozondjupa regional police spokesperson, confirmed the accident and said the arrested driver was under the influence and blew 0.74 when tested for alcohol.
A passenger and a customer are in a stable condition.
