We simply could not ignore the determination this dude is packing, so tjil got to chat to Florito about signing a record deal with BACKROOM, the biggest record label in Portugal.

The illusion has always been that the battle takes place at home, but that’s not always the case. Some artistic battles happen beyond our borders and those battles cannot be overlooked or be listed as less important. Such is the example of musician Florito, who has been flying the Namibian and Angolan flags high.
He is currently in Lagos, Nigeria, shooting a music video with Buju. We caught up with him telephonically, and this is what he had to share.
tji (t): Before we get to the music, how are you doing?
Florito (F): I am doing good, working on my music and networking with a lot of people I hope to collaborate with in one way or another. I am enjoying my stay here. Last week, Wizkid invited me to a Wondecoal show; we spoke about future collaborations. The past two months have been crazy as I’ve been meeting all these superstars.
t: How did the collaborations with Buju and Joeboy come about?
F: The collaboration with Buju has been something we’ve been talking about for the past three years. I’ve known Buju since 2016 before he blew up, so we decided to do something this year. My new management team got hold of his team and they made everything happen. With Joeboy, it happened through his producer Oxygen Mix, who played him my song ‘Dalilah’ and he liked it, so I asked him if we could collaborate on something and he accepted, so we did the song.
t: What have you learnt from working with these artists?
F: I’ve learnt so much, I’ve learnt the art of mastering your craft, and I’ve learnt a lot just being around them. The way they record, creating melodies, and they also told me something profound - consistency is key and happiness is the master key of all of them. No matter what people say, keep doing you and follow your own rules.
t: When is the EP set to be released and what is the title?
F: My EP is coming out in June and the tittle is ‘Fo Di Pipo’. Part of the reason I am in Lagos is to shoot a music video for the song that’s about to come out with Buju. The lead singles are titled ‘High on You’ and ‘Stamina’. This year is full of surprises.
t: What do you attribute your current success to?
F: Hard work and dedication. The current success is all the hard work I’ve been putting on in the past five years and finally we getting international recognition.
