Power-Power Development and Boxing Academy promoter Risto Ashikoto says he hopes for a better 2020 for his academy.

The academy, which held its first boxing tournament in November, has been yearning to create boxing champions.

But its operations have been hampered by a lack of sponsorship.

Ashikoto is adamant that 2020 will be good for them as they embark on a journey in search of sponsors to start next year on a high.

“It is important that we start 2020 on a high because 2019 has been extremely difficult for us.

“The fact that we only hosted one tournament speaks volume of how difficult the year was.

“We are however positive that 2020 will be a great year for us and we will unearth more young boxing stars across the nation,” Ashikoto said.

Ashikoto and his partner, Paulus Ambunda, started the academy in 2016, but it was dormant because they joined other academies to gain experience. The academy plans to train upcoming boxers and create future world champions.

Ashikoto, who is a former boxer, stressed the importance of reaching out to communities that he feels have been left behind.

“Not every young boy has a chance to train because they live in remote areas and places many are unable to go to.

“That is why it will be important for us to go out of our way and ensure that these guys get the best training from an early age.

“We can however only deliver on our mandate if we are able to get sponsors on board,” Ashikoto added.
