Air Namibia employees to demonstrate

Air Namibia employees, represented by the Namibia Cabin Crew Union, will at lunchtime today hold a peaceful demonstration at the company’s head office in Windhoek.
It is expected that the employees will hand over a petition on a number of internal concerns they have to the executive management committee.
According to the spokesperson of Air Namibia, Paul Nakawa, the company is currently in negotiations with all unions which fall into the airline’s bargaining units. This includes the Namibia Allied and Transport Union (NATAU), Namibia Airline Pilot Association (NAPA) and Namibia Cabin Crew Union, which all represent the interests of airline’s employees in respect of matters pertaining to wages and substantive issues.
Nakawa stressed that this is not a strike and will not result in any disruption of Air Namibia’s operations.
“Air Namibia offices as well as the operations control centre, airports and flights will operate as per schedule.”
Air Namibia and all unions representing the interest of its employees remain responsible social partners, acting in the interests of all employees of the company as well as the nation in general, said Nakawa.
“Over the years the parties have managed to resolve issues amicably and it is believed that this development will be determined peacefully for the good of all.”
