061Music spills the beans

061Music have been hard at work since the beginning of the year, putting together material for release.

Their hard work has delivered their first single Down 4 the Nana, produced by Doming Beatz.

It is currently making waves on radio stations.

The song basically means 'being down for whatever, being down for 061'.

It is a club sound mix with a Caribbean flavour.

The track features Balu, Sinna-G and Tuko, who each bring a different dynamic.

The last time 061Music dropped a project was in 2016 and The Area Code album spawned singles like Story No Be Keke and Walk Tha Walk, featuring Uncle.

“The album did its rounds but for the fantastic album that it is, we feel we did not get the adequate attention for it and therefore will be planning a re-release of The Area Code, so more people can hear it,” Sinna-G says. There is one music video for Hold It Down, which has been shot for this album and is ready for release.

“We heard what fans commented on the last album and we listened and now we are bringing back that 061Music sound that they are fond of,” Tuko said.

Founded in 2010 by Catty Catt and Lucci Thanks for the Beat, 061Music says they switched up the sound for their latest album and aligned it to new trends, while keeping the original 061Music flavour, which shines through in the singing of Aimee and Balu on #NBBM - Nothing but Beautiful Music.

The album is scheduled for release in October.

Balu is one of the new members on the team.

“I was very thrilled when I joined the team, I feel that this team represents what I represent and I best fit the direction where the team is heading. 061Music is a great platform for me to take my career further. My style is more ghetto RnB but I consider myself a diverse musician who can work on any kind of beat,” Balu said.

Aimee is also a new addition.

“I was quite surprised when Sinna-G contacted me to join the label, and I thought about it for a little bit and yeah I think I got what it takes,” she said.

“I have been in music since a little girl in church and have a very big musical background through my family. I am working on my solo material as well and we are trying all types of genres, but I lean more towards RnB.”

Sinna-G says Aimee has great potential.

Tuko, who previously featured in the group, and was introduced as a member on the Area Code album, said: “I have a following which is mostly underground but my plan is to come out and be more commercial.”

Tuko's goal is to spread stories about his neighbourhood in Katutura, detailing his hardships and praising the potential he has seen. “He represents the streets with an intelligent outlook,” Balu adds. 061Music has been looking for the right mix talent to join the label and seems to have found just that.

The music video for Down 4 the Nana is now out on YouTube and displays great footage and directing skill by Oshoveli Shipoh, an award-winning short film director.

“It was an honour to work with someone on his creative skill level and we hope you like the video as much as we do, check it out,” Sinna-G added.

On 31 August, the group will be hosting a Freedom Square Tribute Show in memory of Catty Catt and Berry, as well as other late friends.
