Geingob has last say on ambassadors
The international relations ministry has confirmed that President Hage Geingob and not it has the final say when it comes to ambassador postings. This follows increasing speculation around imminent ambassadorial appointments, recalling and reshuffling of certain diplomats. Highly placed sources have indicated that acting Namibia Airports Company CEO Albertus Aochamub will be heading to France to replace Namibia’s head of mission Frieda Iithete. Home affairs permanent secretary and former ambassador to the United States, Patrick Nandago, has also been touted as a possible replacement for Grace Uushona in Angola. Another possible posting being touted is that of former National Council chairperson Asser Kapere, who is set to be heading to the United States in the place of Martin Andjaba who has since been redeployed as presidential affairs minister. According to reports, Namibia’s ambassador to Cuba, Jerobeam Shaanika, is also set to be replaced. The head of the Namibian mission in Zambia Leonard Nambahu is also likely to be replaced, according to insiders.
