The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund has been conducting road safety initiatives throughout the country with the most recent activities currently underway in the Hardap region. In line with its mandate to design, develop, promote, and implement crash and injury prevention measures as laid out in the MVA Fund Act No. 10 of 2007, the road safety programmes are aimed at taking road safety to the people and further instilling the value of road safety awareness within our communities.
In its pursuit of safer roads and reduced traffic crashes, the Fund is dedicating resources to educate, engage, and empower people to make safer choices on our roads. The programme is one of the Fund’s many avenues in reiterating the critical significance of road safety awareness as a fundamental element in its collective efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and their devastating impact on the victims and their families. With the aim of fostering safer road user behaviour and protecting lives, the MVA Fund underscores the need for continuous vigilance, education, and engagement on matters of road safety.
The MVA Fund's ongoing programme targeting school learners on road safety awareness is multifaceted and dynamic. The Fund hereby invites everyone to join in this vital endeavour as we continue these engagements throughout the country. Whether you are a parent, teacher,
community leader, or concerned citizen, your support can make a significant difference in fostering a culture of road safety.
This week the Fund is in the Hardap region conducting various initiatives with a focus on Pedestrian, Passenger and Tyre safety. Through these interventions, the Fund interacts with school learns to ensure they have a safe journey to and from school and that they know how to use the road safely. In addition, the Fund also visits bus terminals and loading zones where they conduct passenger safety initiatives. These allow the team to interact directly with passengers and public transport drives and education them on general road safety, vehicle road worthiness and tyre safety among others.
The Fund is joint on this programme by various stakeholders including the Regional Road Safety Forum, the Namibian Police Traffic Department, Local paramedics and TrenTyre. These road safety partners are working together with the Fund to educate the communities on various aspects of road safety among various other topics covered.
