Welwitchia University fosters academic inclusion through campus expansion

Aurelia Afrikaner
Welwitchia University, formerly Welwitchia Health Training Centre, announced last week that it is set to construct four new campuses in Swakopmund, Grootfontein, Windhoek, Outapi and Nkurenkuru, in addition to the eight existing campuses.

During a celebratory event marking the training centre’s transition into a university, its deputy vice chancellor, Marius Hedimbi elaborated that the expansion aligns with the institution's vision to diversify academic offerings and enhance educational accessibility.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to addressing the vital needs of our country and the world,” he said.

Scholastika Ndatinda Iipinge, the chancellor of Welwitchia University, said: "As chancellor, I am deeply committed to supporting this ambitious trajectory. Together, with the capable hands of our faculty, the bright minds of our students and the visionary leadership of our administration, we will achieve these goals."

Diversification

Hedimbi highlighted that the university has been widely recognised for its advancement in health-related programmes. The new campuses are set to house faculties focusing on agriculture, with the Welwitchia School of Agriculture and Nature Conservation at Mururani spearheading this expansion.

The diversification aims to address the growing demand for varied professional skills and to produce graduates equipped for the evolving job market.

The university has incorporated entrepreneurship modules across all courses to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to create job opportunities and drive economic growth. This diversification focuses on addressing the growing demand for varied professional skills and producing graduates equipped for the evolving job market. “By fostering an entrepreneurial spirit, we are preparing our graduates to contribute meaningfully to society,” he concluded.
