Quality education in Mariental
Danie Joubert Combined School
Danie Joubert Combined School is based in the Mariental, Hardap Region.
Danie Joubert Combined School (C.S) was opened in the year 1973. The school is one of the highest-ranked academic schools in the Hardap Region with excellent academics, leadership, sports and culture.
The school currently has 27 teachers and 27 classrooms.
The following subjects are offered at Danie Joubert C.S: Afrikaans, English, Mathematics, Social Science, Home Economics, Agriculture, Geography, History, Life Science, Physical Science, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, Accounting and Office Practice.
As a combined school (primary and secondary school) Danie Joubert C.S has been serving quality education for almost 50 years for students from grades 0–9 and currently has about 1500 learners.
“We are very excited to be turning 50 years old next year, in 2023. It is such a blessing to withstand the test of time and be able to be this long in the education industry,” Annaleen Thompson, the school principal, said.
The school has already started its celebration preparations for next year's events which will take place in March and April 2023.
Unexpected changes
During the pandemic, many schools were challenged when face-to-face learning was moved to online and for Danie Joubert C.S that was the most challenging time they’ve had.
Thompson said that everything happened so fast and damage control was enforced immediately.
“It was not only a difficult time for our learners but for our teachers as well. But working together and making sure that we communicate effectively helped us all to get through that challenging time."
Unfortunately, the school lost a teacher during the pandemic and moving forward the school made sure to follow the health protocols to ensure the safety of everyone.
But after heavy rain, there’s always a rainbow and for Danie Joubert C.S, moving back to normal after the pandemic offered new hope.
Among the new opportunities was becoming part of the My Zone school newspaper project.
Thompson said that this has helped the learners who are interested in the media industry to stay creative and learn more about the industry.
To keep the learners entertained with clubs and activities, the schools hosts athletics and sports such as rugby, netball, hockey, soccer, archery, chess, science fair, academic week, cultural activities, prize-giving events, leadership camps, a spray-a-thon and scholar patrol training.
“Danie Joubert C.S is not just a school but a big family. We are here to help ensure our learners reach their full potentials and help them towards accomplishing their dreams and goals,” Thompson said.
