Mweshipandeka SS awards learners' hard work
Mweshipandeka Secondary School celebrated the brilliant achievements of their learners on 9 October, recognising them for their exceptional hard work in both academics and extracurricular activities.
The event honoured learners for their outstanding mock exam results as well as contributions in non-academic areas, with awards presented in various categories.
Learners who had achieved 75% and above in their subjects were rewarded, as were those who excelled in extracurricular activities. Among the top performers, grade eight learner Betty Nande was honoured as the DUX learner, while Petrus Shikomba, a grade 11 student, was awarded proxime accessit for his academic excellence.
This celebration was made possible by sponsors such as Volkswagen, Uukolele Pharmacy, Yetu Pharmacy, and Oshakati Pharmacy. Dr Elizabeth Namundjembo, a lecturer at the Hifikepunye Pohamba campus of the University of Namibia, delivered the keynote speech, emphasising the importance of events like these in shaping students' future academic and personal growth. Ms Amuulo, the principal, gave the opening remarks, highlighting that hard work deserves recognition and expressing pride in the school’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence.
The school was founded in 1984 by the Ongwediva town council. It was named after King Mweshipandeka, a King of Oukwanyama dialect. Over the years, Mweshipandeka has produced numerous graduates who have gone on to excel in various fields, including medicine, law and engineering.
In recent years, the school has maintained an impressive pass rate, with several students achieving success in the national exams. The dedication of both learners and teachers has been key to the school’s success, as evidenced by the acknowledgement of high-performing teachers during this year’s awards ceremony.
