Kyle Johnson, a rising star junior player from Walvis Bay Golf Club, won South Africa’s San Lameer Junior Africa Challenge golf tournament last week in the boys under-15 to 18 age group by finishing with 72 shots and an 11-shot victory.

"Reigning supreme ahead of all the other 20-plus athletes who took part felt good. I am very proud of myself, seeing that my hard work has paid off," said Johnson.

The 16-year-old Namibian completed his three rounds of 18 holes with ever-improving scores of 80, 79 and 72. His total of 231 shots was nine ahead of second-placed Yusuf Dadoo. "This obviously did not just happen. I had to practice hard every day for years with the utmost support from my parents. I thank God for my talent and his guidance over me."

Johnson’s younger brother, JP Johnson, also impressed in the under-13 age group, securing seventh place with 86, 88, and 79, totalling 253.

Tapiwanashe Katsavara from Omeya Golf Club scored 276 in the boys under-12 age group, securing the 9th position, and his fellow Namibian Francois lê Roux was placed 16th with 294 in the boys under-11 age group.

The four golf junior athletes were also selected to play for the Dunbar Cup of international teams, where they competed against South Africa on Friday.

"The Namibian team won against the South African team for the first time in 10 years."
