IUM extends to Eenhana
Phase 1 set to cost N$25 million
With a total of five campuses in Namibia, IUM has officially started the construction of its sixth in Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.
The International University of Management (IUM) hosted an official ground-breaking ceremony in Eenhana to symbolise the construction of its sixth campus in the northern town. The first phase of the construction is been tabled to cost N$25 million in total, after IUM bought the plot from the Eenhana town council.
According to founder and council chairperson David Namwandi, the campus will accommodate students in the fields of information technology, management sciences, tourism and hospitality as well as strategic leadership.
“We have come to impart knowledge on the future generation of this land through the Ohangwena Region. We therefore request parents and guardians to ensure that instead of sending children straight to Windhoek, education is just here at your doorstep, so do not betray our trust.
“Leave it to us and we will deliver.”
Namwandi emphasised that the plot was bought in cash and it was not a donation.
“We feel that Eenhana town council is also in need of the money so that they can continue to develop this beautiful town. It must be a conjoined effort,” he said.
Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya marked the construction of the university as a milestone for the town.
“We need to applaud both the Eenhana town council and the management of IUM for this development. We also want to salute David Namwandi for his visionary leadership for the growth of this university of humble beginnings. We have been closely following the development and I remember when we last met, I mentioned to you that the next stop should be in our region and today, we are here to celebrate this historical occasion.”
Ndevashiya added that the education sector plays a huge role towards economic development and has advised leaders to invest in education and work with relevant stakeholders.
The plot is located in Sam Nujoma Drive behind Haimbili Secondary School.
