From humble beginnings to Children's Parliament
My name is Jane Phiri, a grade 11 learner at Dr Lemmer High School. Known for my humility and competitive spirit in academics, I have always striven to excel. One of the most significant milestones in my journey was being chosen as a member of the Children's Parliament, a moment that came as a wonderful surprise.
My involvement in our school's debate club has been a cornerstone of my high school experience. Through various competitions, our team has proudly uplifted our school's name. In grade nine, I was selected as a debater for the regional team, and we had the opportunity to compete at the nationals in Swakopmund. Upon returning from the competition, our coach encouraged us to participate in an essay writing contest.
At the time, I was unaware that this contest was for Children's Parliament. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a try, with no specific expectations but a hope to be chosen.
Fast forward two years, and I was ecstatic to learn that I had been elected to Children's Parliament. The news came as a shock, filling me with immense joy and gratitude. I am thankful to God Almighty for making this possible.
The election process was a remarkable journey, and although I am unsure if future elections will follow the same process, I remain hopeful and prepared. This experience has taught me a valuable lesson: What may seem impossible in your eyes is possible in God's eyes, and one should never doubt their capabilities.
To all aspiring young leaders: Never underestimate what you can achieve. With determination and faith, even the most improbable dreams can become a reality.
