Toyota captures 50% of passenger market
Toyota has continued to maintain its stronghold on the passenger sales market, accounting for at least 54% of all sales.
The findings are contained in the latest vehicle sales report, which shows a total of 1 172 passenger and commercial vehicles sold in July alone.
“Toyota’s monthly market share in the passenger market slightly increased to 54% from 52% in the previous month, with the Fortuner, Corolla Cross and Sartlet as the most popular passenger vehicles,” Cirrus Capital said.
According to Cirrus Capital, the passenger market saw a slightly more concentrated distribution of vehicles sold, with Toyota, Volkswagen, Kia and Suzuki marques contributing 82% of all vehicles sold in this market.
Solid growth in sales was observed for the Fortuner (102), Corolla Cross (57) and Starlet (56). Volkswagen vehicles saw a rebound, with Volkswagen’s market share increasing from 11% to 14% as 28 Polo Vivo units were sold and 20 Polo units were sold.
The Kia Sonet has overtaken the Toyota Prado as the fourth most popular vehicle in the passenger market.
There were 141 rental agency purchases in July 2024 as Namibia entered the peak of the tourism season, with the Toyota Hilux once again the most popular vehicle, with 59 units sold. The Fortuner also saw 38 units sold.
