Zambezi celebrates Day of the African Child

The gender equality ministry on Friday celebrated the Day of the African Child at Alufea Sampofu Combined School in Katima Mulilo.
The event was held under the theme ‘Educate an African fit for the 21st century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa’.
Katima Mulilo Urban councillor Kennedy Simasiku highlighted the significance of the day, which is celebrated worldwide on 16 June, and highlighted achievements by the Namibian government to ensure all children receive not only free, but quality education.
In his message, President Nangolo Mbumba said the commitment to ensure access to quality education cannot be overstated.
“Africa stands to gain immensely from an investment in education and youth, as outlined in the aspirations of Agenda 2063,” he said.
