#JustIn: Nearly 100 000 issued ID documents
The ministry of home affairs, immigration, safety and security's mass registration campaign will only continue until 31 July.
Deputy Minister Lucia Witbooi (photo) confirmed today that as of 16 July, a total of 94 317 Namibians have been served through this campaign.
During the campaign, the ministry is reaching out nationwide to issue national documents, including birth certificates, identity documents and citizenship applications.
Furthermore, details of Namibian residents who do not have official citizenship are being collected for verification and follow-up to confirm and grant citizenship, she elaborated.
However, she expressed regret that as of 17 July, only 52 896 out of 93 019 new identity cards printed by the ministry have been collected.
The more than 40 000 Namibians who have not yet collected their new identity cards are urged to do so as soon as possible.
