Woman arrested for concealing birth
A 34-year-old woman was arrested this week at Enzile village, Omuthiya in Oshikoto Region, on charges of concealment of birth.
The incident reportedly happened this month at an unspecified date and time.
Oshikoto police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale-Kangulu said it is alleged the suspect was pregnant but did not share the news with family members, who, despite her silence, were aware of her pregnancy.
Nehale-Kangulu said the woman reportedly gave birth without notifying anyone.
“When family members noticed she was no longer pregnant, they confronted her. The suspect allegedly told them she had only delivered a blood clot, which she disposed of in the nearby bushes within their yard,” she said.
Nehale-Kangulu said the family reported the incident to the police, but despite an extensive search, the body of the baby has not been found.
She said the suspect was taken to the hospital, where medical tests confirmed that she had been pregnant.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently under police guard at Omuthiya District Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
