Weekend plagued by suicides

Youngest victim only 18
Just days before he died by suicide, the teen set his room alight.

The Namibian Police reported several deaths by suicide over the weekend, with the youngest victim being just 18.

"The body of Jason Nghihangakenwa Valombola [from the Ohangwena Region] was found after he hanged himself with a blue plastic rope,” the police report read.

It is further alleged that just days before, on Wednesday, the deceased set his room on fire. “In the process, another room in the house also caught fire and both rooms burnt to ashes.”

In Windhoek’s Goreangab informal settlement, Haipinge Eradius Linekela died by suicide on Friday after he hanged himself from the roof of a bedroom. His body was discovered by his brother.

In another incident, police found the body of an unidentified man in Windhoek’s Dorado Park.

The man, said to be between the ages of 25 and 30, was found hanging from a tree in a riverbed.

Man stabs, kills ex

Lena Williams (29) died after she was stabbed by her 26-year-old ex-boyfriend in Usakos' Saamstaan location.

"It is alleged that a Namibian male suspect unlawfully and intentionally entered into the house of Lena Williams while the victim was out with friends and waited for her. Upon her arrival, the suspect stabbed her several times with a knife. She sustained serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival,” police said.

According to the report, the suspect fled the scene with the three-year-old daughter he shares with the victim. A police chase ensued and the child was later found unharmed.

Toddler drowns

In Rosh Pinah on Saturday, a toddler drowned in the town's Tutungeni location.

The child, aged one year and five months, allegedly drowned in a 20-litre container of water, police said.

In unrelated news, a case of rape was recorded in the Okahao constituency after a 20-year-old woman was raped by an unknown man while she was sleeping.

"It is alleged that the suspect entered woman’s bedroom, found her sleeping and started touching and undressing her forcefully, and then had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. The suspect has yet to be arrested. Police investigations continue.”
