Walvis Bay entrepreneurs welcome support
The Erongo regional council, through the Walvis Bay urban constituency office, handed over constituency development fund (CDF) equipment valued at about N$125 000 to several recipients on Friday.
The items included hardware and tools such as screwdrivers, electric router kits, electric drills, and many other different tools.
According to Walvis Bay urban constituency councillor, Deriou Benson, entrepreneurs are the pillars of society and supporting them is vital.
"These are the brave people," he said, taking risks to start a business and, "most importantly, providing employment for the community."
Boosting business
The councillor said Namibia faces an unemployment problem, and any assistance to community entrepreneurs – in this case, with equipment - is essential.
"Erongo regional council, through the Walvis Bay urban constituency office, strives to assist the community and its entrepreneurs in this fight against unemployment with its CDF project."
Benson said the CDF project is a socially inclusive, asset-based community development model that focuses on strengths and skills that are at times unacknowledged in the respective communities.
Thankful recipients
Latasha Kock (53), one of the entrepreneurs selected as a recipient, said she is over the moon.
"I am so excited. The equipment that I received will be for my wood shop. We want to focus on small wooden items, as well as coffin making for those in need of a coffin but who cannot afford to buy it from undertakers," she said, adding that they also plan to make equipment for kindergartens.
Francois Mhoney (37), another recipient, said he is "very happy" with his constituency's support.
"It was a long battle that we won in the end. With this equipment, I can now create job opportunities for my fellow constituency members as well as assist the community by rendering services such as installing air conditioners and repairing fridges."
