Tunacor to build houses for employees

Tunacor Fisheries Limited, a Walvis Bay-based fishing company, submitted an application to the municipality’s management council to purchase land for the construction of affordable houses for its employees.
Initially, the company did not specify a location, but during consultations, it was agreed that Erf 8635 in Kuisebmond would best suit Tunacor's needs.
The council recommended that unsurveyed and unserviced single residential erven, measuring approximately 36 238m², would be sold in a private transaction to Tunacor for N$50.06/m².
"The applicant, at its own cost, will do all required groundwork, provide all outstanding services and adhere to the guidelines for all services,” the council said.
According to management committee chairperson Richard Hoaeb, “the town planning division completed the township establishment on Erf 8635 in terms of the Urban and Regional Planning Act. The planning process was completed, and the township was approved by the urban and regional planning board”.
He described Tunacor's application as a "unique development proposition that will significantly contribute to the growth and development of Walvis Bay".
"This development will uplift the area and contribute toward the social well-being of the town," he said.
