The return of Oteya
• New album in the pipeline
The songstress is back with a bang, and has exciting news for her fans.
MICHAEL KAYUNDEWindhoekWith two hot new singles on the market and more on the way, Oteya’s third solo studio album is set for release at the end of the year.
After all these years, the singer has returned to the fold with a roll-out for her third offering.
First out the gate is the single ‘Amen’, which she released with a music video at the end of last year.
‘Amen’ is a song the songstress prays will shine “a ray of hope during these trying times”.
Meanwhile, her latest single ‘Girlfriend’ is a remix to a track she did a couple of years ago.
“My brother in music, Ees, reached out for a collaboration and ‘Girlfriend’ was the fitting song as it celebrates love.
“We chose to drop it now, just in time for Valentine’s Day,” she said.
Having welcomed her second baby in 2020, she said her decision to take a break from music was to afford her time to spend with her children.
New album on the way
Speaking to tjil, Oteya was cautious about revealing too much about the upcoming album. However, she emphasised that good progress has been made regarding the completion of the overall body of work.
While we don’t know the total track count for the project just yet, the singer shared that Yo Maps from Zambia is one of the artists who will feature on the album.
From our conversation with Oteya, we also know that the in-house producers at Ogopa Butterfly are playing a crucial role in its production and composition.
On possible future collaborations with the new crop of musicians, Oteya mentioned Yeezir, TopCheri and Ethnix Namibia as some of the stand-out artists whose music she enjoys.
“I am really impressed by a lot of the new music out now from Namibian artists and I hope to work with some of these talents in the near future.”
