Swapo school celebrates second graduation
• Advancing knowledge, nurturing talent ‘integral’ to party
The Swapo Party School's objective is to provide party members with access to resources and develop expertise and skills.
President Hage Geingob will soon present a project drafted by Swapo Party School's leadership to the political party's politburo.
The project is titled 'The second struggle for economic emancipation through socialism with Namibian characteristics'.
The president said this during the school's graduation ceremony for its second intake, and pointed out that since its formation, Swapo has always been led by cadres who are informed about historic and contemporary issues.
“Advancing knowledge and nurturing talent has always been an integral policy of our party and that is why today Swapo remains the only party in Namibia with an effective, tried and tested developmental agenda for our people," he said.
"I am aware that Swapo Party School board members and lecturers have been seized with working on the assignment. I have received a document in this regard and take note of the importance of this assignment, which we will endeavour to finalise soon before discussion at the politburo,” he said.
Highly educated
Geingob stressed that to be educated is to be liberated, and that "with the knowledge that the pen is mightier than the sword, Swapo administered a meticulous and well-coordinated programme of education in exile".
Because of this attitude, he added, many freedom fighters - including the party leadership - are highly educated individuals who have pursued their studies in respective fields in exile and a large majority continued to further their education after independence.
He said the objective of the Swapo school is to provide all party members with access to available resources; provide all members who want to share their knowledge with a platform to do so, and develop expertise and skills .
“As graduands, you are about to enter the fold of the Swapo Party intelligentsia. This means you have to use your intellect and knowledge to become instruments of change in our society and beyond the borders of our country. You must be able to apply your knowledge to ensure that Swapo delivers on its electoral promises," he said.
Tangible solutions
The Swapo president further took aim at those criticising the party "from the sidelines".
"It is quite easy for some comrades and commentators to... complain ad infinitum about this or that development project or promise the Swapo Party leaders have not delivered on, or to criticise the process we go about to govern. But it is not so easy for the same people to offer tangible, practical and feasible advice to help solve the problems they are complaining about.
"Governance is not a simple matter..., it demands grit, determination, consultation and hard choices to ensure that our actions and decisions... positively impact and improve the lives of our citizens,” Geingob said.
