The Rundu Town Council successfully raised N$941 000 in cash and in-kind pledges for its annual trade fair at a fundraising gala dinner held over the weekend.

The council recognised First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) and Namibia Berries as the principal sponsors, each contributing N$50 000, bringing the total sponsorship to N$100 000.

Several Rundu-based companies also pledged in-kind contributions.

AM Ludgelus committed N$10 000 for food and accommodation for the official opening, Mbuni Trading pledged N$3 000 for the committee’s boat cruise, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) committed N$150 000 for live broadcasting, and 065 Lifestyle pledged N$30 000 for advertising the Rundu Annual Trade Fair.

The gala dinner saw an increase from last year’s N$349 650 in pledges, including in-kind contributions.

Speaking at the event, deputy prime minister John Mutorwa said: “It is a mission-driven initiative aimed at empowering our communities through education, economic upliftment and sustainable development. We believe that every individual possesses the potential to make a positive contribution to society when equipped with the right opportunities and resources. Our mission is clear: to create an environment where every person can thrive,” Mutorwa said.

He highlighted that the Rundu Annual Trade Fair has become a cornerstone of the region, serving not only as a platform for local businesses but also as a testament to the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit flourishing within the community.

Growth

Mutorwa noted that the trade fair has seen remarkable growth, attracting exhibitors from diverse sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and technology.

“This progress is a testament to Namibia’s success in promoting business trade and fostering cooperation among nations,” he said.

Rundu mayor Gabriel Kanyanga expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the funds raised will be instrumental in supporting critical projects aimed at enhancing the town’s infrastructure, improving public services and fostering economic development.

“Together, we can create a brighter future for all residents of Rundu. The town has always been known for its vibrant community spirit, which drives us to come together in times of need and work collaboratively toward common goals," he said.

"I am continually inspired by the dedication and resilience shown by each one of you. Your willingness to invest in our town’s future speaks volumes about your love for Rundu,” Kanyanga added.
