PowerCom’s CEO Beatus Amadhila has revealed that the company plans to construct approximately 20 network towers across the country worth N$32 million during its 2023–2024 financial year.

Amadhila made these remarks at PowerCom’s groundbreaking ceremony at Mupini in the Kavango West Region last week.

“These sites are spread across various regions. This follows the construction of 19 new sites during the 2021–22 financial year, to the tune of N$30 million, symbolised by the official launch of our Okahandja Veddersdal Tower in June 2022. During our 2022–23 financial year, PowerCom further invested around N$11.2 million to construct seven new sites across the country,” he said.

He added that PowerCom is committed to investing approximately N$80 million over the next two financial years for the construction of 50 new network towers across Namibia.

He said these accomplishments and plans highlight "our broader strategy to enhance nationwide connectivity as we continue to implement the strategic plan targeting the deficit of approximately 500 towers required by our shareholder within the current strategic plan cycle. Our ongoing initiatives align with our goal to reduce the digital divide and enhance economic growth by providing robust telecommunications infrastructure across Namibia."

Cornerstone of progress

Amadhila pointed out that PowerCom was built on the core belief that reliable and affordable telecommunication services are the cornerstone of social and economic progress.

“At PowerCom, we intend to be a leading force in transforming Namibia's digital landscape, connecting communities, and empowering individuals. Everything we do, from infrastructure development to service provision, is driven by this objective,” he said.

“The construction of the new towers here in Mupini, Kangongo and Tondoro is a tangible expression of our vision in action. These towers are not isolated projects; they are part of a broader strategy to expand telecommunication infrastructure across Namibia, ensuring equitable access for all citizens. We believe in building the essential backbone that will fuel the growth of a vibrant digital ecosystem.”

He said the company will continue to work in close collaboration with key stakeholders such as its shareholder Telecom Namibia, their line ministry, regulators, local and regional authority councils, traditional authorities, ICT service providers, MNOs, ISPs, and radio broadcasters "to expand connectivity bases and improve service delivery across Namibia."
