Pensioner defrauded of over N$700 000
Over the weekend, a 65-year-old pensioner was allegedly defrauded of over N$700 000 in Ongwediva.
According to police reports, the man lost his identification card, and it was subsequently used to replace his SIM card at MTC.
An unknown suspect gained access to the victim's Standard Bank account and transferred N$732 000 from it, the report read.
The money has not been recovered and no arrests have been made. Police investigations continue.
Donkey cart accident
In Oshakati, Mathews Handje Ishidhimbwa died after a donkey cart accident.
He succumbed to serious neck injuries he sustained when he hit a pole with a donkey cart last Friday at the Oshaale Sheenkoshi village Uuvudhiya.
Meanwhile, a security guard was arrested and charged with theft in Opuwo after he stole two wooden doors and a Y-Bar sheet wire from a classroom at the Otuzemba Primary School.
The police have recovered the stolen material, valued at N$23 000.
Abortion gone wrong
Namibian Police reported that an unknown woman died after an alleged failed abortion in Oshakati.
According to police, a decomposed foetus with deformities was found under the deceased’s bed.
Complaining of abdominal pain, the woman was rushed to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where she died on Tuesday, 12 September.
In unrelated news, a man died by suicide in Katutura last week.
"It is alleged that the deceased, 35-year-old Hendricks Mooiman, hanged himself with a wire from the roof of his shack,” a report read.
Outjo robbery
In Outjo, police reported that two male suspects gained entry into a victim's house through a window, cut open a safe with a cutting torch and stole property worth N$20 000.
"The items include jewellery, one 306 rifle (serial number 427369), one 9mm Barreta pistol (serial number B134372), one 9mm Makarov pistol (serial number POM 7923), clothes, shoes, a laptop and a cell phone.”
On Saturday at around 03:25, a Ford Ranger double cab was stopped at the Otjiwarongo roadblock, and upon a search, a cutting torch, a 306 rifle, three pistol magazines and cash amounting to N$3 160 were found.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on the spot.
Further, a 42-year-old Namibian man, driving a Golf 6 GTI, was arrested at the Otjiwarongo-Outjo-Kalkfeld crossroad when he was found in possession of a cellphone and N$1 814 in cash," the police report said.
After interrogation, N$5 410 in cash was found hidden in both suspects’ clothes and underwear.
