NQA urges institutions to get accreditation
News in short
The Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) has called on education and training providers to ensure their institutions and qualifications are accredited.
In a statement, acting CEO Harmoni Beukes noted that NQA is the only entity in the country that is mandated by the Namibia Qualifications Act to accredit persons, institutions and organisations providing education and training. She added that NQA does not engage in the registration of institutions of higher learning, as it is vested in other relevant entities within the higher education fraternity.
All institutions in Namibia are obliged to apply for accreditation, she said.
“The process takes approximately three to six months, depending on the availability of information from the applicant and the prevailing circumstances. Accreditation is confirmation by NQA that the institution has met the standard of accreditation and has proven the necessary capacity to provide and assess the performance of students and ultimately certify the competencies attained,” she said.
