Rundu-based Ngato Vocational Training Centre, a youth-based vocational educational and training institution, last week donated sports kits valued at N$6 257 to the Rundu Town Council.

The donation, which also included a first aid kit, took place at the council chambers.

Vice chairperson of the Ngato board of directors, Anselm Marungu, said Ngato, as an institution dedicated to empowering the youth and building a brighter future for the community, believes that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of individuals.

“It is not just about physical fitness but also about instilling values of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. It is with this conviction that the Ngato VTC is honoured to present this donation of sports kits to the Rundu Town Council. These kits will be utilised by the Rundu Town Council, providing them with the necessary equipment to reach new heights in their sports pursuits," he said.

Empowering communities

Marungu said the training centre understands the importance of grassroots-level sports development and the impact it can have on people’s lives.

“By investing in the sports infrastructure of the Rundu Town Council, we are not only nurturing the talents of our people but also fostering a sense of community and pride. Today, as we hand over these sports kits, we are not just donating equipment – we are investing in the dreams and aspirations of the staff of the Rundu Town Council. We are planting the seeds of a future where our people can thrive, showcase their skills, and represent our town with unwavering determination.”

He urged the beneficiaries to work together to ensure that these sports kits are used to their fullest potential, empowering people to reach new heights and inspire the next generation.

Acting chairperson of the sports club at the Rundu Town Council, Elise Matoya, said the donation came at the right time.

“This donation came at a very good time because, currently, we only have old soccer kits that we usually play with. Last year, we played with old kits, but this year, the players are going to be very happy to play with these new kits," she said.
