Minister applauds Oshana Region
Urban and rural development minister Erastus Uutoni last week acknowledged improved development and performance in towns in the Oshana Region.
Uutoni, who was speaking at a fundraising gala dinner at Ondangwa last weekend, commended Ondangwa for once again preparing to host its trade and industrial exhibition, which he said is a big task and involves complex preparations.
Oshana regional governor Elia Irimari said the towns are being rated positively based on the general development projects taking place in the region.
"The infrastructure and development of all the towns in the region – you can tell that something is happening. The land delivery, more especially in the informal settlements, is increasing," he said.
Open-door policies
Irimari added that the infrastructure in the region is not being vandalised and is being maintained on a regular basis.
According to Irimari, an open-door policy at regional and local government institutions ensures issues are addressed on a speedy basis.
"We have constant, open consultations with the general public, the business community, and traditional authorities, and only through these consultations can much be achieved and faster," Irimari noted.
Healthy relationships
The governor described the relationship between his office and that of the town councils as "healthy and open," saying they host quarterly meetings to discuss relevant issues.
"Before a decision is taken by a local authority office, the office of the governor is fully aware of it," he said.
He added that the town councils understand the provisions and operation of a regional structure and how they should operate.
