//Khomanin crown prince slain in botched hotel robbery
A sombre cloud hangs over the house of //Khomanin queen, Gaos Juliane Gawa-!Nas, in Dolam as the family tries to come to terms with the sudden death of their son, Armando Gawa-!Nab.
The late Gawa-!Nab was killed during a robbery that took place over the weekend at Town Lodge hotel in Windhoek, where he rushed in response to an emergency call. He worked for a local armed response security company.
The bereaved family gathered at the family home in Windhoek yesterday, where the queen expressed her disappointment in the police, saying she heard the news from people who saw it on social media.
Namibian Sun broke the story on Monday morning, with a police report on the incident claiming that the deceased’s next of kin had been informed of his death.
Gawa-!Nas added that while she understands the police have a job to do, in such incidents, they should inform the family first before releasing names to the media.
She further lamented the fact that all the information she has about the incident is from social media, adding that the police have yet to visit or inform her and her family about what transpired that day.
‘Our crown prince’
“The death of this person was treated unfairly. While we respect the freedom of the press, we are asking them to consider that that is our crown prince and they should do a little bit of thinking when they report.
“The family only found on out on social media. The family is hurt, the family is saddened,” she said through an interpreter.
The late Gawa-!Nab, who was the heir to the //Khomanin throne, was 28 and an active leader in the royal house’s youth council, where he served as commander of the youth cadets.
According to his family, he was a staunch advocate for ancestral and communal land as a means to uplift the youth, and was deeply involved in traditional authority matters.
