Hopeful Children's Centre warms hearts in Goreangab
The Hopeful Children's Centre in Goreangab spread warmth and joy throughout the community with a heartfelt 'Blankets of Hope' event on Saturday.
Over 70 blankets were distributed to 65 local children to provide comfort during the winter months with the help of five volunteers from Germany.
Founded by 32-year-old Bianca Mokhatu, a mother of two with a passion for making a difference, the centre has been a lifeline for many in Goreangab since 2019. Serving approximately 800 children with meals and educational services weekly, Mokhatu's dedication has garnered both local and international support.
"The blankets mean a lot to us," a parent from the community said.
"They not only keep our children warm but also remind us that there are people who care. Bianca has been giving our children hope and a sense of purpose, even when we as parents seem to fail."
Volunteers, like 26-year-old Celina Röttgen from Germany, emphasised the impact of the project.
"It's amazing to see the smiles on the children's faces," Röttgen said. "Their happiness is truly contagious."
The event not only provided physical warmth but also symbolised hope and solidarity within Goreangab. As winter persists, Mokhatu and her team continue their mission, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported.
