The Mariental Sports Club (MSC) has bought land to develop their own facilities and players' housing units, along with a high-performance centre.

The piece of land is situated opposite Natis Mariental and the Hardap Emergency Unit Storage Warehouse of the Hardap regional council.

Executive chairperson and owner Frederick Raider Jod said the high-performance centre will serve not only MSC but the national teams as well.

"Our facilities will not only cater to our team but also the Brave Warriors and even the Welwitschias during preparation camps. Instead of going to Pretoria or elsewhere, we will be ready to accommodate our teams at our facilities once completed. Who knows, maybe teams from neighbouring Botswana and South Africa might come for preseason preparations here," said Jod.

New opportunities

Work has already started, with the area being debushed, cleaned and graded.

"We, therefore, urge corporates to come on board and get the naming and branding rights for our facilities," Jod added.

MSC, in their first season, ended the Southern Stream First Division in sixth place after a strong first leg.

The team was established in 2020 and has their own vision – Vision 2026 – to have ready-made players for the Brave Warriors for the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada, and Mexico.

Phases

The chairperson recently concluded an NFA Introductory Coaching Course held in Mariental as part of his desire to know the dynamics of coaching and vowed to also equip himself with the administrative side of football.

Phase 1 completion is planned for around December, which includes the construction of two fields with a pavilion for about 2 000 people and the planting of the grass.

Phase 2 will commence early next year. It includes the import of specialised equipment for the high-performance centre, a sauna, and player accommodation.
