Henties Bay junior golf tournament a huge success

The Namibia Junior Golf Foundation held its Junior Open from 29 to 30 July at the Henties Bay Golf Club.

The tournament saw 20 junior athletes take part, with Kyle Johnson claiming the overall title.

"Divisions A and B played 54 holes, whereas the C and D divisions played 36 holes, throughout the competition. The non-handicap division only played nine shortened holes," said Damian da Silva, the Damian Sports Academy (DSA) owner and tournament director.

Winners

The competition title was claimed by Kyle Johnson, a junior player from Walvis Bay who played a 62 on Saturday in his second round and repeated it on Sunday in the third round.

Saturday saw him set a course record of 62, and he tied that same course record at the finals.

JP Johnson got an overall nett of 218 strokes, Connor Gibson from DSA won the A division gross with 230 strokes, Rudi Auseb won the B division gross with 248 strokes, Justine Naobeb won the B division net with 242 strokes, Francois Le Roux won the C division gross with 176 strokes, DSA’s Weitz vn Niekerk won the C division net with 180 strokes, Emilio Maboh won first place with 51 points in the D division, and Ethan Johnson came second in the D division with 45 points.

Assistance welcome

Da Silva said DSA will initiate junior developments in Henties Bay and will need financial assistance for this to materialise.

The tournament prizes were sponsored by Switch Energy Drinks, with DSA sponsoring the caps. "We would appreciate more exposure in junior golf from both the development side, the coaching side, the juniors taking part in tournaments, and more sponsorships," Da Silva said.
