Grove Mall for sale
Property company Atterbury is looking to sell Windhoek’s Grove Mall of Namibia in a deal worth N$1.8 billion.
The deal is being brokered by Stratus Capital Partners and Bard Santner Markets, Zimbabwean newspaper The Herald reported.
Once finalised, the ownership of the mall will be transferred to Zimbabwean investors, mainly pension funds keen to invest in the regional market, the newspaper reported.
The move is being made on the back of pension fund reforms in that country to modernise and strengthen the regulation and supervision of the pensions industry, while giving them flexibility to invest in other markets.
Built by Howard and Chamberlain Architects through investment from Atterbury Property, Attacq Ltd, The Frontier Property Trust and Demushuwa Property Developer, Grove Mall is located in the Hilltop mixed-use estate in Kleine Kuppe and is the largest shopping centre ever to be developed in Namibia, measuring 52 000 square metres.
In 2011, the bulk earthworks for the mall and the construction of the new irrigation reservoir for the City of Windhoek were completed, while the actual construction, headed by Murray and Roberts Namibia, started on 1 November 2012.
The mall officially opened on 23 October 2014.
The total investment in the mall was about N$1.1 billion, while approximately 700 jobs were created with its construction.
