Farm killing case postponed again

The case in which a 65-year-old female farmer killed a man after he allegedly assaulted her on her farm was postponed again last Thursday as the investigation has yet to be completed.On 15 March, Marieta Wilhelm of farm Fokshof in the Maroelaboom area near Grootfontein allegedly hit her attacker on the head with a hammer during a struggle.
The man was waiting for her next to the house when she went out to feed her dogs, and when she wanted to go back in, he attacked her from behind with a log, she said.
Third time
Wilhelm appeared in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court last week, during which the case was postponed for the third week in a row for the same reason.
Only once the investigation has been completed can the dossier be handed over to the prosecutor-general (PG). The PG will then decide whether Wilhelm should be charged, and what charges she will face.
South African farm attack activist Willem Petzer has established a legal aid fund for Wilhelm, and is paying her legal costs.
Bail
Wilhelm was released on N$10 000 bail on condition that she surrenders her travel documents, does not leave the country and will not apply for new travel documents.
She must also report to a police station every Friday and inform the investigating officer if she leaves the Tsumeb-Grootfontein-Otavi district. She is represented by Jan Wessels.
