The One Economy Foundation on Tuesday held skills development training for 35 youths at Ngandu Hotel in Rundu.

The session aimed to empower those who have dropped out of school with the skills and knowledge necessary for securing long-term employment or launching their businesses by providing comprehensive training in fields such as beaded jewellery-, mat- and candle-making.

According to the social welfare organisation’s head of communication lleni Hitula, the foundation champions pathways to a future where everyone thrives.

“At the forefront of this goal is the youth opportunity (YO) pillar, which empowers young people to build lasting successful ventures. By nurturing the development and execution of these ventures, YO fosters a sustainable ecosystem where businesses can blossom, driving a lasting wave of economic empowerment,” he said.

Thorough programme

Hitula added that following the skills development training, the group will move on to the ‘Generate your business idea’ training, a thorough programme designed to provide young people with the skills and knowledge to launch and manage successful businesses.

“Through this training, participants will be able to develop feasible business concepts that are ready for implementation. This training method will generate the newly acquired skills into a practical road map for his/her specific business idea,” he said.

“This training aims to uplift young people between the ages of 18 and 35 from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Kavango regions, mainly those with disabilities and HIV, or those who are unemployed, the out-of-school youth. We aim to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing and capacity-building by bringing together individuals from like-minded organisations. We believe that through collaboration, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society for Namibia's youth,” the spokesperson added.
