Brian Roodt behind bars again

Francoise Steynberg
Professional hunter Brian Roodt is back behind bars. He was re-arrested after a court appearance on 29 October in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court in connection with an alleged wildlife crime charge in the Outjo district. Roodt was supposed to plead on that day, but his trial has been postponed to 11 June 2025, because his attorney, Gilroy Kasper, was unavailable.

Roodt, the owner of Quality Hunting Safaris, is in custody in Outjo and will appear tomorrow with a co-accused in the town's magistrate's court. He faces several wildlife crime charges, including seven counts in the Dordabis district. These relate to his alleged failure to comply with conservation regulations.

He allegedly failed to provide an annual hunting report detailing where, when and which wildlife species he hunted, as well as the trophy numbers and the names and nationalities of his clients. In this regard, Roodt is also alleged to have provided false information about a hippo hunt with a Hungarian client that he did not register.
