Looser ends competitive year
Cyclist Vera Looser announced the end of her competitive year over the weekend after participating in the two-person Wines to Whales event in the Western Cape.
She made the announcement on her social media account.
After stage one, Looser and Mariske Strauss held the fifth position. By the end of day two on Saturday, the duo had advanced to fourth place in the standings. However, due to an injury sustained by the Namibian, they were forced to withdraw.
This means that she might also not take part in December’s Nedbank Desert Dash, where she is a regular face.
Looser is in contention for sportswoman of the year at this weekend’s Namibian Annual Sports Awards.
Looser thanked Strauss for an incredible ride as well as Wines to Whales.
"Unfortunately, this is where it stops for me. I’m forced to take a break with a broken hand. A stupid crash in the last 300 metres will force me to end my year earlier than I hoped.
‘‘I had an amazing year, on and off the bike. But for now, it's time to recover, heal up, and reset,” she said.
