Farmers Meat, union successfully conclude wage talks
Farmers Meat abattoir has successfully concluded wage negotiations with the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU).
The abattoir located just outside of Mariental - which is a subsidiary of the Olthaver & List Group (O&L) - has established a new one-year substantive agreement with the union, effective 1 July to 30 June 2025.
O&L said this underscores the company's unwavering commitment to its employees and the Namibian community.
Farmers Meat has faced numerous challenges, yet remained steadfast in focusing its efforts on the well-being of its employees, the company said. “This agreement reaffirms our drive towards Vision 2029 and our brand of being authentic, caring, and passionate,” it added.
Our greatest asset
Farmers Meat managing director Marco Wenk said the agreement is a testament to their commitment to maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
“Our employees are our greatest asset, and we strive to maintain a balance of business sustainability while ensuring the well-being of our employees.” He added that they are proud to have reached an agreement that benefits both the employees and the company.
According to NAFAU branch organiser Simon Muukapo, the union is pleased with the outcome of the negotiations, adding that “the agreement reflects the strong relationship between NAFAU and Farmers Meat”.
Meanwhile, employee relations manager Shikondjeleni Heita said the signing of the one-year substantive agreement with NAFAU symbolises the continued positive relationship between the parties. “By engaging timeously, we ensure that our bargaining employees receive their salary increments without delay.”
