Victim OKs bail for alleged rapist
A 19-year-old learner at a Rundu school told the court she has no qualms with her alleged rapist being granted bail “because he is a teacher”.
In a statement submitted to court, the victim said: "I have no objection to bail. The suspect can be recommended for bail because he is a teacher”.
Olavi Immanuel, a teacher at Mbambi Junior Primary School, was charged with the rape of the teen. He was granted bail of N$2 000 in the Rundu Magistrate's Court last Monday.
The 30-year-old educator, who is also facing charges of impersonating a police officer, appeared before Magistrate Sonia Samupofu. The case was adjourned until 26 November for further investigations.
According to court documents, Immanuel stands accused of unlawfully and intentionally committing a sexual act near Rundu's Sauyemwa location. He allegedly used physical violence and threats to force the victim into the act.
Immanuel confirmed that he is facing a rape charge, but did not want to comment further. He said his lawyer advised him to remain silent during the ongoing legal process.
Immanuel was rumoured to have posed as a police officer during his encounter with the victim. The police have yet to confirm these allegations.
