SHORTS: Arangies, Beukes ready to settle
In a N$1.25 million lawsuit for alleged assault, Waldo Beukes, Hugo Arangies, and their representatives are currently engaged in settlement negotiations.
The civil case follows an incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media platforms, which occurred in broad daylight in Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Street, Windhoek, in November 2023.
Beukes subsequently filed a case against Arangies in the Windhoek High Court, alleging that Arangies acted unlawfully, irregularly, and intentionally with the aim of causing him serious harm.
Beukes claimed that Arangies punched him multiple times, kicked him in the face, and threw him onto the pavement. He is seeking N$1.25 million in damages.
In addition to his alleged physical injuries, Beukes stated that the incident humiliated him as it took place in public and the video was widely shared on social media.
Settlement
According to court documents, the parties have already agreed on a settlement amount and are now in the advanced stages of finalizing the settlement agreement.
The parties were scheduled to appear in court before Judge Thomas Masuku on Thursday but requested that the matter be postponed in their absence to allow time to finalize the settlement. Judge Masuku postponed the case to February 13.
