Lichtenstrasser without lawyer
Following a guilty verdict on eight charges on 2 November, former Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (Nimt) employee Ernst Lichtenstrasser suspended his lawyer, Albert Titus, who subsequently withdrew from the case.
Lichtenstrasser will now represent himself for the remainder of the legal proceedings.
Lichtenstrasser later said he had suspended Titus's services because he would not be available to bring a review application on behalf of Lichtenstrasser.
Lichtenstrasser filed the application himself on 8 November under Section 317 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
He claims certain aspects of his trial were unconstitutional and that State prosecutor Antonia Verhoef was in such close contact with investigating officers that she herself was a witness.
Lichtenstrasser was found guilty of the murders of Nimt directors Heimo Hellwig and Eckhart Mueller in 2019. He was also found guilty of a charge of obstruction of justice and five other charges related to weapons and ammunition, as well as a charge of unlawful possession of a shotgun, unlawful possession of ammunition and obstructing the course of justice.
